NASA Selects CubeWerx Spatial Technology

September 8, 2000

HULL, Quebec - CubeWerx Inc., a leading provider of Spatial Warehouse Solutions for geospatial data infrastructures, today announced scientists at the NASA Ames Research Center have purchased the company’s cascading Web Map Server product, CubeSERV. It will be used for collaborative work on the CaLSIP (California Land Science Information Partnership) in conjunction with NASA’s International Digital Earth Project.

Using standard HTTP protocols, this new technology allows users to access GeoSpatial data from CubeWerx Spatial Warehouses, for example, and dynamically combine it over the Web with other GeoSpatial data from Open GIS Consortium (OGC) compliant Map Servers built by many other companies.

“NASA has been an important participant in the OGC Web Mapping Testbed activities.” stated Edric Keighan, President and CEO, CubeWerx Inc. “We are very proud to welcome them to our growing customer base”.

Sponsors of the Web Mapping Testbed initiative include such agencies as the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Australian World Wide Web Mapping Consortium representing 24 Australian government and commercial organizations. CubeWerx industry co-participants are some 30 commercial organizations developing open standards that will allow Web users to easily find, view, overlay, and combine different thematic maps for a given region of the world.

“We believe this purchase is a strong indication of the innovative and robust nature of CubeWerx technology.” added Mr. Keighan. “We look forward to a long and close relationship with NASA who are clearly among the world’s most advanced users and developers of Geospatial data technology.”

CubeWerx pioneered the concept of the “cascading” Web Map Server leading to the OGC Version 1.0.0 Specification, and was the first company to successfully demonstrate the technology to the world on September 10, 1999 during an OGC meeting at Lockheed Martin’s Gaithersburg Md. facililty. Using CubeSERV™, and nothing more than stand alone browsers such as Netscape or Internet Explorer, users can publish Geospatial data from a huge variety of Spatial data stores whether or not the data is within the company’s CubeSTOR™ Spatial Warehouse.

Founded in 1996, CubeWerx Inc. is a leading provider of Spatial Warehouse Solutions that support the most demanding requirements for the integration and management of very large volumes of geospatial data. The Company's core product, CubeSTOR™, is a seamless, n-dimensional, multi-resolution Spatial Warehouse that easily integrates all Spatial Data types and can handle gigabytes to terabytes of Spatial Data.
