CubeWerx Announces Web Mapping Technology Breakthrough
July 12, 1999
HULL, Quebec -- CubeWerx Inc., a leading provider of Spatial Warehouse Solutions for geo-spatial data infrastructures, today announced it has delivered the first of the companys' technology solutions for an open and interoperable Web Mapping technology based on OpenGIS Consortium (OGC) Standards.
The OGC is made up of organizations from both government and industry dedicated to establishing Standards for open geo-processing. Participants include NASA, the U.S. Army, the United States Geological Survey, Canada's Department of National Defense, and Natural Resources Canada. In October, 1998 OGC issued a Request For Information (RFI) to geospatial technology vendors for approaches and architectures for simultaneous access and interaction with multiple, distributed geospatial information sources via the Internet. In March, a subsequent Request For Quotation was issued and CubeWerx along with other stakeholders were selected by OGC to help develop new open standards for Web Mapping technology.
"The OGC objectives are very important and we are proud to deliver our first solution in such a short time," said Edric Keighan, President and CEO, CubeWerx Inc. "Our contribution is a new product, CubeServTM, which facilitates direct access via the Web to geo-spatial data from an Oracle database and any OGDI enabled data stores."
A key objective of the OGC is interoperability of software platforms and architecture by the various stakeholders, enabling web-based mapping technology to become a reality via mutually defined interfaces and protocols. Applications include environmental management support, emergency management, disaster relief, military humanitarian relief and stabilization.
Founded in 1996, CubeWerx is a leading provider of Spatial Warehouse Solutions that support the most demanding requirements for the integration and management of very large volumes of geo-spatial data.
